A method for diagnosing a failure of an automatic transmission vehicle is provided to diagnose the failure by detecting an amount of slippage of a damper clutch if a variable line pressure is output at a level higher than a target value. Whether an admission condition of a failure diagnosing mode of a variable force solenoid valve is met is determined. If yes, a line pressure variable control studying is prohibited(S104), and it is admitted in a failure diagnosing mode(S105). A damper clutch solenoid valve is operated at a preset reference duty value(S106). If slippage is detected, a control duty value is compensated according to the conditions of engine revolution and engine torque(S109). If the slippage is not detected, the control duty value is gradually decreased(S110), and it is determined whether slippage occurs before it reaches the set target duty valve(S111). If the slippage occurs under allowable duty value, the variable force solenoid valve is determined as a normal state(S113).
