In a press felt (100) for a papermaking machine, comprising layer(s) of base fabric with a woven structure of individual threads (112, 114) or multifil yarn fibers with crossing sites (110), the smallest diameter (118) of the threads or fibers at at least one crossing site is less than the smallest diameter (116) of the threads or fibers between the crossing sites.
