PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant detector capable of determining an area to which a seated occupant belongs with high accuracy even when the behavior of a vehicle is changed. SOLUTION: The acceleration vector is analyzed based on the acceleration detected by an acceleration sensor 6 (S12). The correctionΔW for correcting the determination thresholds W1, W2 for determining the area to which the occupant seated in a seat 1 belongs based on the acceleration vector is set (S13). The determination thresholds W1, W2 are corrected based on the correctionΔW (S19). The area to which the seated occupant belongs is determined by comparing the determination thresholds W1, W2 after correction with the occupant load W detected by load sensors 3a-3d (S22-S24).
