The volume regulation device (10) has an opto-electronic sensor (18) which determines tray geometry of a tray (14) and geometry of an object (16) in the tray. An analysis unit (22) determines the deviations of tray geometry compared to target geometry and by means of the deviations provides correction of the object geometry. The sensor provides simultaneous regulation in a common measuring procedure of tray geometry and object geometry for the object. The sensor is a laser scanner and arranged for angular regulation and distance of reflected light. The sensor is a CCD or CMOS chip.
