A mounting structure for LED lighting sources (10), comprises a support body (16) having attached on one side (18) thereof a circuit board (18a) for mounting the LED lighting sources. The circuit board (18a) is preferably a printed-circuit board (PCB) with conductive traces (180) to feed electrical power to the LED lighting sources (10). The support body (16) is in the form of an elongated bar or in the form of a box with e.g. a linear, round, square, hexagonal or octagonal shape. The support body (16) is a drawn or molded body of a lightweight material such as aluminium or plastics and preferably exhibits good heat transfer properties. The support body (16) includes a back side (20) for mounting the structure on a supporting surface, such back side (20) possibly having associated a heat dissipation fixture (20a). Additionally, the support body (16) may have free space inside and/or be at least partially apertured to permit cooling air flow for a driver circuit (24) for driving the LED lighting source (10). Electrical connection of the driver circuit (24) to the LED lighting sources (10) includes a flexible portion of a driver board, a flexible cable or ribbon-like flat wiring (26) extending through an opening (28) in the support body (16). The structure typically includes connectors (32, 34) to allow linear series connection or parallel, side-by-side connection of a plurality of homologous structures, while preserving constant pitch mounting of the LED lighting sources (10). |
