PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide anω-[2-(polyalkyleneoxy)ethylthio]alkylalkoxysilane derivative, and to provide a method for producing the derivative. SOLUTION: The new objective compound is obtained by treating an (ω-mercaptoalkyl)alkoxysilane compound with a metallic base to convert into anω-(alkoxysilyl)alkylthiolate metal salt, performing de-metal halide reaction with a poly(alkyleneoxy)alkyl ether halide or a poly(alkyleneoxy)bis(haloalkyl) ether at a low temperature and forming carbon-sulfur bond. As the new compound contains S other than Si-OR bond in the molecular structure, so the compound is useful as a monomer for synthesizing functional silicon polymer capable of increasing hydrophilic function, a silicon-based surfactant material, and a surface modifier of organic/inorganic materials.
