<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant crash protection device capable of suitably controlling tension applied to each of a lap belt and a shoulder belt according to the state of a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: The occupant crash protection device has a lap belt controlling means for controlling the tension applied to the lap belt; a shoulder belt controlling means for controlling the tension applied to the shoulder belt; a means for presuming actual self-aligning torque applied to a front wheel of the vehicle; a lateral slip angle presumption means for presuming a lateral slip angle of the front wheel; and a gripping degree calculation means for calculating the gripping degree based on the actual self-aligning torque and reference self-aligning torque. Specifically, when the gripping degree is less than a first predetermined value, the lap belt controlling means gives the tension to the lap belt and the shoulder belt controlling means does not give the tension to the shoulder belt. The first predetermined value is set to the gripping degree that a driver begins to recognize the lateral slip occurring on the vehicle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
