PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To distribute copyrighted contents to many users through a communication network while guaranteeing the protection of the copyright. SOLUTION: A Web server 12 distributes an image that a user requests to a s user PC 6 through the Internet. The image data distributed from the Web server 12 are ciphered and only a dedicated image editor 22 in the user PC 6 can decipher them. The image data distributed from the Web server 12 include control data showing use restrictions based upon the copyright. The image editor 22 controls editing operation and print specifications allowed for an image downloaded from the Web server 12. The image editor 22 prints the image only when payment for the image is completed. |
