PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new operating method of a printing machine, in which a replacing time for realizing the change of a trim size and the exchange of a plate in the printing machine is remarkably shortened and consequently the time used for printing by the printing machine is prolonged, resulting in making the cost per time of the printing machine more effectively reduced. SOLUTION: In the operating method of the press, especially of a web rotary press for realizing the exchange of the plate and the change of the trim size in the sleeve type printing equipment of the printing machine, a re-writable and erasable printing sleeve is used as a printing plate. The printing image part of the printing sleeve is formed outside the printing equipment of the printing machine and the printing sleeve, on which the printing image part is formed outside the printing equipment is arranged on the plate cylinder of the printing equipment together with a spacer sleeve made suitable for the trim size to print so as to realize the exchange of the plate and the change of the trim size.
