PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphor excellent in luminous characteristics and durability and to provide a method for producing the phosphor by which mass production is facilitated and to provide a light emitting device including white LED illumination using the phosphor and to provide a phosphor film for excitation of electron beam and electron beam-excited color display device each using the phosphor. SOLUTION: The phosphor comprises≥0.10 ppm and≤10,000 ppm metal element(s) constituting a compound represented by the composition formula: Si<SB>6-x</SB>Al<SB>x</SB>O<SB>x</SB>N<SB>8-x</SB>:Z (Z element acts as an activating agent in the phosphor) and sublimating or evaporating at 1,000°C to 1,800°C. The metal element(s) constituting the compound is preferably one or more elements selected from zinc (Zn), gallium (Ga), indium (In), thallium(Tl), germanium (Ge), tin (Sn), lead (Pb) and manganese (Mn).
