<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption and to extend the lifetime of a battery by cutting off power to a storage device when not using a storage device for a prescribed time. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention relates to power supply control of a storage device 221 (ODD), wherein a switch 222 connected between a power unit 223 and an ODD (optical disk) is turned on/off in accordance with an external control signal and ON/OFF of power supply to an ODD driver unit 211 is carried out. An operating state of the storage device 221 connected to a system 210 is monitored and when the storage device is not used for a prescribed time as a result, the switch 222 is turned off to cut off the power supply.
