摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which has excellent thermal fluctuation resistance and satisfactory SNR characteristics and can be easily manufactured. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium is provided with a substrate, a first underlayer formed on the substrate and including an amorphous alloy containing Ni, a crystalline second underlayer formed on the first underlayer and including a Cr single body or an alloy containing Cr and a magnetic recording layer formed on the second underlayer and including magnetic crystal particles containing at least one element of Fe and Co and at least one element of Pt and Pd and having an L1<SB>0</SB>structure. The amount of oxygen existing at an upper surface of the second underlayer is more than that existing at a lower surface of the second underlayer and the normal direction of a (001) plane of the magnetic crystal particles of the magnetic recording medium is inclined and oriented in an angle range of 3 to 25°to a film surface normal direction.
