PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve recording density while suppressing noise, by uniformly using a dynamic range of a hologram recording material. SOLUTION: When interference fringes of signal light 100 and reference light not shown are subjected to multiple recording in a single layer hologram recording material 50, the data are recorded in the layer including two positions in the thickness direction of the hologram recording material 50, i.e., a position nearer the front face and a position nearer the back face, to carry out multiple layer recording to form a book (a group of holograms) 60 in two layers within the hologram recording material 50. The recording layers are selected by moving a focal position of the signal light, and the intensity ratio of the signal light 100 to the reference light at the focal position of the signal light 100 is optimized. Thus, the recording density is improved while suppressing noise, by uniformly using the dynamic range of the hologram recording material 50. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
