PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anisotropic scattering film suitable for a screen of a projection type image display device and excellent in all performances of resolution, contrast and brightness. SOLUTION: The scattering film contains at least more than two kinds of incompatible resins and is characterized in that: the phase separation structure of the incompatible resins is a sea-island structure having a sea phase comprising at least one kind of resin and an island phase comprising at least one kind of resin; the island phase is a rod-like phase oriented in one direction at least in a surface layer part of the film; and the film shows different intensities of scattered light between a scattering plane parallel to the orientation direction of the island phase and a scattering plane orthogonal to the orientation direction of the island phase.
