<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of easily photographing an image suitable for face authentication. <P>SOLUTION: When a face authentication mode is selected by operating a mode switching dial, the drive range of a zoom lens is set (limited) so that distortion is within a predetermined range. Specifically, when the distortion is set within±1% in the imaging apparatus having characteristics as shown in FIG. 4, the zoom lens is driven to the initial position IP when the face authentication mode is set, and the movement of the zoom lens is limited so that the zoom lens is movable only a range ZD corresponding to a focal distance from a value Pa to a value Pb.
