<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical semiconductor device which has a high degree of parallelism between an optical element of a semiconductor chip and a translucent member of a lid and thereby achieves accurate detection and emission of light by the optical element. <P>SOLUTION: The optical semiconductor device X includes the semiconductor chip 10 having the optical element 11 for emitting and receiving light, an insulating substrate 20 having a mounting plane 21a to mount the semiconductor chip 10 on, and the lid 30 which includes the translucent member 31 having a translucency and forms a storage space S for storing the semiconductor chip 10 mounted on the mounting plane 21a, together with the insulating substrate 20.
