PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL device wherein contrast is not deteriorated even if used under outdoor daylight by suppressing the excitation of an organic EL material by outdoor daylight, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: This organic EL device having respective pixel electrodes 31-33 arranged in a matrix shape on a substrate 102, a counter electrode 118 facing the respective pixel electrodes 31-33, and three types of organic electroluminescent layers 116 existing between the respective pixel electrodes 31-33 and the counter electrode 118 to emit red, green, and blue, respectively, for every pixel electrode is equipped with respective pigment thin films 71-73 for absorbing light having a wavelength capable of exciting the types of organic luminescent layers between the organic luminescent layer and a display surface. Thereby, the excitation of the organic EL material by outdoor daylight is suppressed, and the deterioration of contrast can be suppressed even if used under the outdoor daylight.
