An apparatus for speed control in a curve/gradient section and an operation method thereof are provided to brake a train automatically through an ATS(Automatic Train Stop) box by judging the over-speed of the train after checking the speed of the train entering the curve/gradient section by using the ATS box. An automatic train stop box(100) for sensing a train is installed at a warning point of a curve section, and recognizes the passing of a vehicle by resonance of 78KHz, and transmits a resonance signal to a speed control module(300) through a CR-BOX(200) for sensing a train. The speed control module controls the speed of the train by calculating a speed control time using a distance between the ATS for sensing a train and an ATS(500) for speed control and a speed limit in the section. The ATS for speed control is installed at a start point of the curve section, and transmits the speed control signal received from the speed control module to the on-board unit of the train. An ATS(600) for releasing speed control is installed at an end point of the curve section, and receives a speed control release signal from the speed control module and then releases the limited speed of the train when the train escapes from the curve section.
