<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a featured portion of motion images with higher accuracy than in a conventional technique. <P>SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus is provided with an image acquiring section 200 for acquiring images of a subject, an acceleration detector 210 for detecting an acceleration of the movement of the subject based on the images acquired by the section 200, and an image recorder 240 for recording the images with better image quality when the acceleration is larger than in a case where the acceleration is small. Preferably, the apparatus is further equipped with a compressor 230 for compressing the motion images at a lower compression rate when the acceleration is larger than in a case where the acceleration is small when the section 200 picks up the motion images of the subject.
