A passive matrix type LCD is provided to increase the distance between common electrode lines and the line widths of the common electrode lines, by disposing the common electrode lines both on an upper glass substrate and on a lower glass substrate. A lower glass substrate(52) and an upper glass substrate(54) face each other. A sealing member binds the upper and lower glass substrates to each other, and defines a display area. A plurality of cells are arranged in a matrix type within the display area. A first common electrode group(52a) is formed on the upper glass substrate, and extended along a sidewall of the upper glass substrate. A second common electrode group(52b) is formed on the lower glass substrate, and extended along the sidewall of the upper glass substrate. The second common electrode group is disposed in parallel with the first common electrode group. |
