An LCD and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to realize the pre-tilt of liquid crystal molecules, thereby improving the response speed of liquid crystal molecules, by improving the pattern of each sub-pixel electrode such that the center of the sub-pixel electrode is downwardly inclined to a lower substrate. A lower substrate(1) includes a pixel electrode, wherein the pixel electrode has sub-pixel electrodes(82a) each defining a domain. The center of each sub-pixel electrode is inclined toward the lower substrate. An upper substrate(2) includes a common electrode(150), wherein the common electrode has openings corresponding to the centers of the sub-pixel electrodes. A liquid crystal layer(3) is formed between the lower substrate and the upper substrate.
