On a first path connecting a power supply wiring (PS) with a common cathode (COM1), a driving TFT (22), a switching TFT (24) and an organic EL element (EL1) are arranged in series. On a second path connecting a node (K) between the driving TFT (22) and the switching TFT (24) with a source wiring (Sj), a switching TFT (25) is arranged. A period wherein electricity is carried in the second path by having the switching TFT (25) in the ON status, and electricity is not carried in a branch section to the organic EL element (EL1) from the node (K) of the first path by having the switching TFT (24) in the OFF status is provided. Thus, a display device, which has higher contrast compared with that of conventional pixel circuits and suppresses deterioration of an electro-optic element, and a method for driving such display device are provided.
