METHOD OF PAPERMAKING

A method of papermaking in which an optimum wet end environment can be created. A hydrochloric acid acidified aqueous solution of sodium hypochlorite exhibiting a pH value of =4 but <7 and an effective chlorine concentration of 1000 to 10,000 ppm, preferably 3000 to 8000 ppm, is charged in a white water pit and adjusted so that the effective chlorine concentration becomes = 0.5 ppm. Preferably, an aqueous solution of chlorous acid or hypochlorous acid adjusted to a weak acid pH value of =4 but <7 is continuously or intermittently added to papermaking raw water prior to papermaking with the expectation that at bleaching, the residual chlorine concentration is = 500 ppm, thereby carrying out bleaching treatment.
