<p>A stem/leaf desiccant for crop plants which comprises as an active ingredient, a compound of formula (I):
wherein X represents CH; Z represents halogen; A represents oxygen, sulfur, or NH; R 1 represents hydroxyl, C 1 -C 7 alkoxy, C 3 -C 7 alkenyloxy, C 3 -C 7 alkynyloxy, C 6 -C 7 cycloalkoxy, {(C 1 -C 7 alkoxy)carbonyl} C 1 -C 3 alkoxy, (C 1 -C 7 alkylamino)oxy, {di(C 1 -C 7 alkyl)aminoloxy, (C 3 -C 7 alkylideneamino)oxy, C 1 -C 7 alkylamino, di(C 1 -C 7 alkyl)amino, C 3 -C 7 alkenylamino, C 3 -C 7 alkynylamino, C 5 -C 7 cycloalkylamino, {(C 1 -C 7 alkoxykarbonyl} C 1 -C 3 alkylamino, or (C 1 -C 7 alkoxy)amino; R 2 is hydrogen or methyl; and R 3 is hydrogen, halogen, C 1 -C 3 alkyl, or C 1 -C 3 alkoxy;
