A system for monitoring change of a traffic lane and a method for controlling the same are provided to enable a driver to safely drive a vehicle, when the traffic lane is changed, by alarming a distance between a lateral object and the vehicle. A sensor unit(115) generate a sensing signal under proper control to monitor lateral portions of a vehicle according to change of a traffic lane, and has plural sensors outputting the sensing signal as a voltage level. An alarm unit(117) generates an alarm under proper control. A control unit(111) controls the sensing signal to be generated from the sensors, and determines whether an object is existed on a lateral portion of the vehicle corresponding to the voltage level output from the sensors.
