PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an information recording medium having multiple rewritable recording layers compatible with a read-only information recording medium in a short period. SOLUTION: When temporarily closing an optical disk which has multiple recording layers each having intermediate areas and rewritable data areas, the information showing the temporary intermediate areas is recorded on the same radial position in each data area based on the information in either one of the recorded or non-recorded areas in each data areas on the optical disk (Steps 705-719). Consequently, the compatibility is achieved with a read-only disk without writing dummy data in all the non-recorded areas in each data area. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
