<p>High intensity light emission is attained by synthesizing an a-sialon of good crystallinity, and a white LED excellent in color rendering properties is provided by shifting (blue shifting) light emission to short wavelengths. In design of an a-sialon represented by the following general formula: (Li<SUB>x</SUB>, Ca<SUB>y</SUB>, Eu<SUB>z</SUB>)(Si<SUB>12-(m+n)</SUB>Al<SUB>m+n</SUB>)(O<SUB>n</SUB>N<SUB>16n</SUB>), the a-sialon is conditioned so that it satisfies 0<x<2.0, 0<y<2.0, 0<z=0.5 (where, 0.3=x+y+z=2.0), 0<m=4.0 and 0<n=3.0.</p> |
