PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive shock energy absorption volume variable steering column with a simple structure. SOLUTION: This steering column comprises an energy absorbing member, whose one end is provided to a vehicle body side, whose other end is provided to a column side, and which is torn by moving the column side to the vehicle side with a load of an occupant loaded at the time of vehicle collision, or absorbs shocks by elastic deformation. At least one end is fixed to the column side or the vehicle side by an explosion bolt 50.
