The method involves recording a scene of a traffic space by a camera e.g. charge-coupled camera, and determining a position of a polarization plane in the record of the space. Bounds of the position of the plane are determined and gathered to verify an edge detection of an object e.g. vehicle, and/or the position of the plane in the record of the space without the object is drawn to determine road conditions caused by the weather. A degree of polarization of the record is determined. An independent claim is also included for a device for traffic space monitoring, comprising a camera.
