This invention relates to a method of determining, in a subject having activ e breast gross cystic disease, the risk of future breast cancer development. The level of glycoprotein GCDFP-15 in the plasma is measured at the time of cyst aspiration in order to provide an indication as to the likehood of future breast cancer development.
