PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the rotational deviation of a pulley main body 60 from growing too great, and hence to prevent a belt 8 from slipping down when an idler pulley 6 is a self-aligning pulley to prevent the belt 8 from meandering and bias running by oscillating the pulley main body 60. SOLUTION: When the idler pulley 6 is not the self-aligning pulley, a bias amount generated automatically owing to the misalignment of the pulleys 1 to 5, the peculiarity of the belt 8, etc., during one rotation of the belt 8 is specified. The width of the belt 8 is set to two or more times the specified bias amount so that the belt 8 always runs straddling a position C* of a pivot within the width without exceeding the position C* on the periphery of the pulley main body 60 by the whole width of the belt 8 owing to the spontaneous bias. The friction coefficientμbetween the belt 8 and the outer peripheral surface of the pulley main body 60 is set to be not less than the force which frictional force between the both slips down the belt 8 even at the maximum rotation of the pulley main body 60.
