PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a warehouse for storing articles, improved in storage efficiency, without enlarging a size of the warehouse as a whole, capable of compactly storing and holding the articles, such as samples and microplates, more than ever, and capable of easily transferring the articles. SOLUTION: This warehouse 1 for storing and holding the articles is equipped with a storing shelf 7 which is formed by arranging two or more stages of shelf boards 7a inside a main body 2 controlled under a prescribed environmental condition, a stocker robot 3 which is used for mounting the article on the storing shelf 7 or taking out the mounted article, and a clamping device 31 which is positioned on the stocker robot 3, wherein the stocker robot 3 transfers the clamped article in directions of X, Y, and Z axes. Further, two or more stages of the shelf boards 7a are each transferrable in the direction of the Z axis along a common guide shaft 74 and the warehouse 1 is equipped with a lifter robot 5 which is used for transferring the shelf board 7a in the direction of the Z axis.
