A mobile terminal having a function of performing a call according to a group recognition number and its operation method are provided to enhance the convenience of a user by shortening a time taken for searching a phone number. A memory(20) stores phone number data of a particular group according to a group recognition number. When the group recognition number is inputted, a controller(10) provides phone number data belonging to the corresponding group, and/ore performs a corresponding call function. A data setting unit(11) sets the group recognition number for providing phone number data belonging to a particular group. A data processing unit(12) provides the phone number data of the corresponding group when the set group recognition number is inputted.
