An automation system for welding process which can improve efficiency of welding operation by simplifying a moving path of a transfer car and can reduce facility investment cost and maintenance and management costs by minimizing the number of required welding robots, and a method for efficiently controlling the same are provided. In an automation system for welding process comprising rails(100) which have a standby location(S) at which a transfer car(500) stands by, a loading location(L) at which a workpiece(50) is loaded on the transfer car, and a work location(W) disposed between the standby location and the loading location, and which guide the transfer car in such a manner that the transfer car moves between the standby location, the loading location and the work location, the automation system for welding process further comprises: spot welders(600) installed on the transfer car to weld the workpiece when the transfer car is at the work location of the rails; an extracting and transferring unit(300) for extracting the workpiece from the transfer car and transferring the workpiece to a subsequent process when the transfer car is at the work location; and an intermediate welding unit(400) for welding the workpiece while the extracting and transferring unit transfers the workpiece.
