A method for effectively removing surface flaws of a wire rod along the entire length of the wire rod in a simple manner without a particular flaw detection procedure is provided. As a method for removing surface flaws of a wire rod for cold working, a wire drawing method for removing surface flaws of a wire rod for machine structural use comprises drawing the wire rod in such a manner that shape factor(ÝÈ) represented by a relational expression, ÝÈ=alpha/r[1+(1-r)^1/2]^2, becomes 5 or more before or after performing spheroidization heat treatment of the wire rod, wherein alpha is a half angle of dies represented by radian, and r is a percent reduction in area during wire drawing represented by %. The wire rod for cold working comprises 0.1 to 0.5 wt.% of carbon.
