PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical projection apparatus and a projector capable of improving the utilization of illuminating light to a reflection type light valve and uniformizing a luminance in a projected image. SOLUTION: In the projector (optical projection apparatus) 1, the reflection surface of the reflection type light valve (light reflecting element) 11 for projecting the image with light reflection is obliquely irradiated with the light. A convex lens (light condensing means) 12 is arranged just in front of the reflection type light valve 11, and the optical axis of the convex lens 12 is deviated in a direction so that a mutual optical path length difference between a plurality of optical paths reaching the reflection type light valve 11 through the convex lens 12 may become small. Since the optical path length difference becomes small in the luminous flux emitted to the reflection type light valve 11, the deformation of the image formed with the illuminating light on the reflection surface and non-uniformity of intensity distribution of the illuminating light are suppressed, then, the utilization of the illuminating light and the uniformity of the luminance in the projected image are attained.
