The access card has a rectangular-shaped plastic carrier plate (5) with an upper surface side made of metal, and a functional unit such as chip and magnetic stripe. The carrier plate completely consists of precious metal such as gold, silver, platinum or bronze. The upper side of the carrier plate has a recess (11) in which a gemstone is inserted. A notch is provided on the side of the carrier plate turned from the inserting side.
