An auxiliary heat exchanger of a central heating boiler comprises a water chamber 10 having an inlet 16 and outlet 17 communicating water there through, the water chamber 10 being disposed in an outer casing 11 having an inlet 32 and an outlet (33, fig 2) communicating flue gas there through, and the outer casing 11 having a releasable clamping means (36, 38, fig 3) which upon being released permits the outer casing 11 to be removed from the water chamber 10. Water chamber 10 and outer casing 11 may have internal baffles (21), 34 respectively. Water inlet 16 and outlet 17 may be adjacent each other and disposed on an edge wall 13 of the water chamber 10. Clamping means (36, 38) may comprise of at least one screw threaded stud (36) projecting from the water chamber 10 that extends through a hole (38) in the outer casing 11 and engages with a nut (38). A seal arrangement (23) comprising a flange and gasket seals the outer casing 11 to the water chamber 10. Outer casing 11 may be provided with a channel shaped groove 29 that receives a rib (22) projecting from the periphery of the water chamber 10. A plurality of water chambers 10 may be disposed in the outer casing. The heat exchanger may be used on gas fired or oil fired boilers and permits easy servicing and maintenance.
