PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device for a vending machine that is small and simple in arrangement and capable of reducing the revision work such as for indicating whether commodities are hot or cold and for indicating prices. SOLUTION: Light from a light source 32 is converted into light having one axis of polarization, and signs or the like are created by means of other polarization plates 36, 37 having polarization axes that are parallel and perpendicular to the polarization axis. The other polarization plates 36, 37 selectively display the signs or the like that are created by either of the polarization plates 36, 37 according to application of voltage to a liquid-crystal panel 35.
