PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent clogging of a membrane filtration apparatus provided with a spiral type membrane module apparatus. SOLUTION: The membrane filtration apparatus comprises a coagulation means for pouring a coagulating agent into a raw water tank 21, i.e., a reaction tank stored with raw water W and flocculating a suspension substance contained in the raw water W in the raw water tank 21; a membrane separation apparatus body provided with the spiral type membrane module apparatus provided in a downstream side of the coagulation means; and a liquid feeding conduit 23 for connecting the coagulation means and the spiral type membrane module apparatus. A coagulation sensor 1 is provided on the raw water tank 21, a turbidity in a gap between the flocks in the raw water W is continuously measured and the membrane filtration apparatus is controlled based on the coagulation state obtained here.
