PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process which can be widely used to produce polyisocyanate-based materials, in particular, for the production of coatings, adhesives and sealants. SOLUTION: The process for lowering the viscosity of compositions containing compounds having urethane groups which comprise reacting all or some of the urethane groups with a monoisocyanate to form allophanate groups.
