PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance tidal wave breakwater enabling a reduction in cost and time, not affecting the cruising of ships and natural environment, and not impairing landscape. SOLUTION: A water impermeable membrane body is suspended from a floating body floating on a sea and the lower edge part of the membrane body is fixed to a sea bottom. The fixed point of the floating body located at an offshore side sea bottom is connected to the floating body with a plurality of anchoring cables. The center of the floating body is positioned apart a distance equivalent to 50% of a sea depth in a peacetime flood tide from the sea level just above the sea bottom fixed point of the lower edge part of the membrane body to the offshore side. A dimension between the center of the floating body and the sea bottom fixed point of the lower edge part of the membrane body suspended to the sea bottom is set to a length obtained by adding 50% or more of the water depth to an expected sea depth when a tidal wave comes. The tidal wave breakwater comprises a floating and sinking mechanism for the floating body. In a peacetime, the breakwater is storably sunk near the sea bottom and floated and expanded before the tidal wave comes. Also, the floating body is formed in a flexible membrane bladder or a hard gas container, or utilizes a gas body generated by chemical change to raise the floating body. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
