Polyolefins containing conventional anti-oxidants are stabilized against discolouration by the incorporation of a mixture of both a zinc salt and an alkaline earth metal salt of the partial esters of C3 to C10 dibasic or polybasic saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acids with C6 to C20 aliphatic alcohols. The specified antioxidants are 2,6-di-t-butyl-p-cresol, N-stearoyl-p-amino phenol, dialkyl phenol sulphides and 2,21-methylene-bis(4-Me-6-t-butylphenol). Preferred salts are the Ca, Mg and Zn salts of maleic acid monolauryl ester, the Ca salt of adipic acid monoethylhexyl ester, and the Zn salt of succinic acid monolauryl ester. The disclosed polyolefins are those derived from ethylene, propylene and/or butylene. |
