<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous oil retainer made of a resin impregnated with a lubricating oil that has an excellent efficiency for use in the lubricating oil and high mechanical strength, and permits the resin and the lubricating oil to be combined corresponding to usage and specifications, and its preparation method. <P>SOLUTION: This oil retainer made of the resin is formed by impregnating the oil in a porous material made of the resin having open pores on its surface. The open pores is formed via steps of making a molded product by using the resin and a pore forming material, dissolving the pore forming material thereafter and extracting a part of the pore forming material from the molded product using a solvent to which the resin is insoluble.
