PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus that can be downsized and cleaning and replacement of a color reference member of which can be facilitated. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: a reading unit 11 integrally provided with a reading section 15 for reading one side of an original D and a color reference member 22 acting like a white reference; a reading unit 12 integrally provided with a reading section 16 for reading the other side of the original D and a color reference member 21 acting like a white reference; and a moving mechanism that relatively moves the reading units 11, 12 so that the reading sections 15, 16 take a first relative position wherein the reading section 15 is opposed to the color reference member 21 and the reading section 16 is opposed to the color reference member 22 in the case of determining the white reference, and relatively moves the reading units 11, 12 so that the reading sections 15, 16 take a second relative position wherein the reading section 15 is not opposed to the color reference member 21 and the reading section 16 is not opposed to the color reference member 22 in the case that the reading sections 15, 16 read the original D.
