<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system capable of supplying polarized light in a specific vibration direction with high efficiency and supplying sufficiently uniformized light by a compact configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting system has a light source section 101 which supplies light, a polarized light separation section 110 which separates the light from the light source section 101 to the polarized light in the first vibration direction and the polarized light in the second vibration direction, a lightguide section 105 which is disposed in the position where the polarized light in the first vibration direction transmitted through the polarized light separation section 110 progresses and in the position where the polarized light in the second vibration direction reflected by the polarized light separation section 110 progresses, and makes the intensity distribution of the luminous flux from the light source section 101 approximately uniform, and a mirror 107 for the lightguide section which is disposed on the side opposite to the side provided with the polarized light separation section 110 of the lightguide section 105.
