PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate a broadcasting country, even without grasping broadcasting content by performing OSD display of broadcasting country information together with display of a channel number, in a television receiver that receives television broadcasting signal and displays video. SOLUTION: A television broadcasting signal is received by an antenna 2, and the television signal is separated into video information and broadcasting information through a tuner 3. The broadcasting information is passed through a data slicer, and a broadcasting country information signal is detected and decoded through a decoder 6. The broadcasting country information is stored in a storage device 8, together with the frequency of the television broadcasting signal. When a user selects the frequency later, the broadcasting country information is detected from the storage device 8, turns into a character signal through a character generator 9 and is mixed with the video signal through a mixer circuit 11, and a broadcasting country name is displayed on a CRT 20.
