Inner wrappers for packets of cigarettes are fashioned from a continuous strip (4) of metal foil paper directed along a feed path (P) internally of a cigarette packer, advancing through an embossing unit (8) by which the metallic surface is textured, then through a rotary cutter (6) such as will divide the material into leaves (7) of specified length (L). The embossing unit (8) is equipped with an assembly (15) comprising a pair of rollers (16, 17), also with a stabilizing mechanism (20) that utilizes an aspirating roller (21) to induce a controlled plastic deformation in the strip (4), cancelling out the random deformations induced by the embossing action, and, with each revolution of the cutter (6), simultaneously advancing a portion of the embossed strip equivalent to the length (L) of one leaf (7). |
