The method involves determining the temperature of a wheel brake (4) of a motor vehicle, and defining a release gradient according to which a driver releases an accelerator pedal. A threshold value for the gradient is determined according to the temperature. The wheel brake is automatically pre-stressed by applying less brake pressure, if the gradient exceeds the preset threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a braking system for a motor vehicle implementing a re-charging method.
