PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an e-mail communications apparatus, with which whether certificate information of destination has been stored and the content of the certificate information can be readily checked. SOLUTION: When an e-mail is received, certificate information attached to the received e-mail is stored in a public key certificate storage section (step 202, 203). When the received e-mail is an encrypted mail, it is decrypted by using the private key of a user at the destination (step 204, 205). When a digital signature is attached to the e-mail, the digital signature is verified (step 206, 207) and information indicating that a signature has been given is recorded in a communication data management section, while being linked to the record at the public key certificate storage section (step 208). Consequently, public key certificate information is displayed along with the source address, date of reception, and the like, of the e-mail, if the communication data are displayed.
